The New Forty Niner Motel has two impressive sculptures on display, an eight foot bear at the north end of the motel, and this one, to the south of the bear.

This carving of a well dressed native is about eight feet tall. He has a shield with a feather attached, an intricately carved walking stick, a bear claw necklace and a full headdress. He's looking up at the sky quizzically, possibly sniffing the air, possibly checking the clouds, possibly watching an eagle soar high above, wishing he were up there with it.
