This is the New Forty Niner Motel on the south end of Chewelah, on Highway 395. At the north end of the motel, right beside the highway so everyone can see him, is their greeter, an eight foot tall bear with a gentle disposition and a bit of a smile on his face. A wood carving, this brown bear looks to have been carved from an eight or nine foot piece of a pine/spruce/fir tree.
