The center displays animal and bird tracks: guess and lift the display cover. Bird calls: press a button. Murals that are two story showing birds of the Pacific Flyway decorate the walls. 13501 Franklin Blvd. from Twin Cities Road exit I-5.

The Preserve is identified as a National Natural Landmark because of its unitque riparian area and wetlands. A large blackboard on the outside deck allows visitors to note whatever they have observed each day. High powered binoculars are placed on the deck facing the slough by volunteers. Trail maps and cards are available inside.
Some books are available for purchase. There are picnic tables on the large deck.
Two taxidermy cranes are on display inside, and there is a "peek inside" wood duck nesting box. Sandhill cranes are one of the largest migratory birds to pass here during Dec. and January.
There are over 250 species. Volunteers conduct monthly bird counts.
It is managed by nine agencies including the Nature Conservancy, the US BLM, Ducks Unlimited, State Fish & Game, State Lands Commission, DEpt of Water Resources, Sacramento Co. Dept of Regional Parks, Galt Joint union Elementary School District, and Natural Resources Conservation Service acting as a unit under a Cooperative Management Agreement.

Visitors should visit the Nature Center and post a photo of themselves (or GPS unit) either inside or outside of the nature center visited. Logs without photos WILL be allowed if a lenghty description of one's visit and a mention of what they learned is included.
