This marker is located on Main Street in Pierz, Minnesota. Originally called Rich Prairie, Pierz was renamed in honor of Father Pierz, the early Catholic priest and missionary to the region.
The marker highlights the history of Father Pierz, also states the population of the village in 1865 and in 1965. It also tells of the first settler to the area.
Stands on the grounds of the Catholic Church, St. Joseph's. The church, built in 1888, replaced the original log church that was established in the 1860's.
