The MINGO, a bronze figure of an Indian warrior standing on a stone base with right arm outstretched, was erected by the Kiwanis Club in commemoration of the Mingo whom the whites supplanted in the Ohio Valley. -West Virginia: A Guide to the Mountain State, 1941, pg. 519.

The statue of The Mingo is much as described in the Guide.  It was vandalized in 1982 when it was severed at the ankles and taken.  It was recovered and then restored after which it was rededicated April 21, 1983.  It was again cleaned and restored in 2012 and is in excellent condition.
