The present hamlet of Silverton is the remnant of a much larger turn of the century silver mining town that almost disappeared in the 1930s. Luckily its beautiful lakeside setting in the mountains of the Slocan Valley saved it from complete extinction.

Silverton is home to the Frank Mills Outdoor Mining Museum. Frank Mills salvaged most of the 50 or so pieces of mining equipment on display from abandoned mine sites up Silverton Creek and at Sandon, to the northeast of Silverton.
