Simon Kenton, born Apr. 3, 1755, in Fauquier County, VA. He had no opportunity to go to school. At the age of sixteen, Kenton became involved in a fight involving a woman. Believing he had killed a man, he fled to Ohio where he changed his name.

1755   SIMON KENTON   1836
In Oakdale Cemetery, one mile east is the grave and monument of Simon Kenton, pioneer, soldier, Indian scout; also, "The Indian Hunter," by J.Q.A. Ward, noted sculptor and native of Urbana, now marking his grave.
