This cannon and its identical companion across the street flank the entrance to the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

This appears to be a naval 24-pound artillery piece that would have been used aboard military sailing vessels and often on the ships bent on criminal mischief. They would have been mounted on wooden carriages similar to their current supports but the carriages would have been on wheels.
