This milestone is at the side of the original London to York road between Sherburn-in-Elmet and Barkstone Ash.
The road was well travelled by stage coaches and local stories tell of highway robbers, smugglers, royal visits and mail runs.
The road was one of the busiest coaching routes in the country during Victorian times, and earlier.
