This extremely old hay baler is now on display at the Stevens County Museum at 700 North Wynne Street in Colville, WA.

I believe this is the oldest baler I've laid eyes on. Made primarily of wood, with steel moving parts, it is an oldie. You don't see knotters on balers of this vintage, meaning that the tying of the bales must have been entirely manual.

These old balers were used in she same way as were threshing machines of similar vintage. The baler was stationary and the hay was brought to it, the reverse of the contemporary method.

It is now part of the agricultural machinery display at the Museum. Though there is a $5.00 charge to view the main building's displays, the outdoor displays are free to view and available all year. The museum building is closed from October through April.
