U.S. Post Office - Purcell, OK - WPA Projects on Waymarking.com

The Purcell post office, located at 228 W. Main Street, is a one-story tan brick building with a basement. The tall windows are separated by wide brick pilasters. A wide stone frieze at the roof line is engraved UNITED STATES POST OFFICE / PURCELL, OKLAHOMA.

The main entrance has a five-step stairway, with double aluminum and glass doors. Above the entrance the zip code 73080 is shown. Above that is a square metal filligris design with a golden eagle in the center. A second entrance with a ramp is located on the side.

The cornerstone shows the date of 1938, although it has no reference to the WPA. This post office is listed in "Park and Markowitz, Democratic Vistas, Post Offices and Public Art in the New Deal, 1984."
