The Bohemian Forest (Sumava) is a low mountain range in Central Europe. Geographically, the mountains extend from South Bohemia in the Czech Republic to Austria and Bavaria in Germany. They create a natural border between the Czech Republic on one side and Germany and Austria on the other.

Originally, Prášily was founded as a settlement for glass makers from the Gattermayer glass works in 1749. The local glass works specialised in the production of mirror glass but the production finished in 1824.

In 1997 the chalet of the Club of Czech Tourists was opened on the occasion of opening a nearby border crossing of Gsenget.

Prášily vznikly puvodne jako osada sklárských delníku Gattermayerovy sklárny v roce 1749. Místní sklárské hute se specializovaly na výrobu zrcadlového skla a jejich provoz skoncil roku 1824. Papírna, založená roku 1819, patrila k nejstarším v Cechách. Do roku 1933, kdy vyhorela, dodávala rucní papír pro prezidentskou kancelár. Za první republiky byly Prášily významným turistickým centrem, srovnatelným s krkonošským Špindlerovým Mlýnem. Obec byla v letech 1945 - 1991 témer znicena armádou, ale nyní znovu ožívá jako stredisko turistického života.

V roce 1997 byla uvedena do provozu turistický chata Klubu ceských turistu u príležitosti otevrení nedalekého (cca 6 km po žluté znacce) hranicního prechodu Gsenget.
