Situated in the heart of the fertile San Joaquin Valley at the very center of California, Chowchilla is today a farming community, just as it was when it was first developed. Located just south of the Chowchilla River and to the west of the Chowchilla Mountain in the Sierras, the town was named for a local Indian tribe whose name reflected their bravery and war-like nature.
