"Sct. Hans

Hvem denne Sct.

SOURCE

"Sct. His

Who this Sct. His is not known with certainty. But either John the Baptist or John the Evangelist may have been the patron saint of the church in Catholic times.

The church has been in present form several times. The oldest church was built 1200-1250 by brick and Romanesque.

The developer is probably Jacob Suneson, a cousin of Bishop Absalon. Suneson was sheriff at Moen until his death in 1246th The church then consisted of the apse, chancel and nave. A little later a tower added. First, during the Gothic period, 1460-1525, the church was enlarged to the size it is today.

The church building

The church is a late Middle-alderlig, Gothic brick building with a triangular closed choir eastward from around 1525 and a long three-ship. The ship's eastern spans the width of the choir, and was probably built in the first half of the 1400s, while the broader western part is from 1400's second half. The dated frescoes sets a lower limit for completion by the year 1494th At the western end wall is an almost simultaneously tower and on the north side a vestry built by architect HB Storck major restoration of the church in the years 1907 - 09

Before the construction of the present church stood a Romanesque brick building with choir and apse from the 1200 century the first half of which remains today is encapsulated in the ship's west section and the tower. The original apsisprydede choir was sansynligvis demolished in 1457 after a fire which destroyed the interior of the church. This church must be performed by the magnate Jacob Sunesen of the powerful Zealand Hvide family, as from Valdemar the Victorious time and until his death in 1246 was captain in Stege Borg. The old church had a twin shared tower, the remains of this part of the present tower.

Inside the church is decorated by frescoes from several periods, the oldest around the ship's windows and a field on the center ship north wall dating from the 1300s. In the choir of decorations from the 1400s. The decoration of the ship itself, according to an inscription on the eastern wall of the 1494th" SOURCE
