In the middle of 3. January 1934 in 16 hours 45 minutes, the explosion of coal dust in underground mine Nelson III, began the tragedy of the many families of the miners. Non-compliance with the basic safety rules, as a result of the economic crisis, has been caused by the death of 142 miners working at the bottom of the Nelson II Mine. Misfortune was the continuation of 28 June when accumulated gases killed two other miners.
The author of the sandstone sculpture is Karel Pokorny. The Memorial, which is the symbol of the largest mining tragedy in Bohemia, was a ranked among the national cultural monuments. The cause of the disasters have been serious shortcomings in complying with the safety of mining operations, working conditions and the lack of effective control.
Ve stredu 3. ledna 1934 v 16 hodin 45 minut, výbuchem uhelného prachu na hlubinném dole Nelson III, zacala tragédie mnoha rodin horníku. Nedodržováním základních bezpecnostních predpisu, jako dusledku úsporných režimu hospodárské krize, byla zaprícinena smrt vcelku 142 horníku pracujících na dole Nelson a jeho pobockách. Neštestí melo pokracování dne 28. cervna pri otevírání dolu, kdy nahromadené plyny usmrtily další dva havíre.
Autorem pískovcového sousoší je Karel Pokorný. Památník, který je symbolem nejvetší hornické tragédie v Cechách, byl vládním usnesením z roku 1978 zarazen mezi národní kulturní památky. Prícinou katastrofy byly vážné nedostatky pri dodržování bezpecnosti dulních provozu, pracovních podmínek i nedostatek úcinné kontroly.
