Bairro Estrela d'Ouro means, in Portuguese, Golden Star Neighborhood, and it was a small enterprise of a private investor in early 20th Century. In 1907 Agapito Serra Fernandes, the owner of a local shop, hired the architect Norte Júnior for planning "his" neighborhood. The mural is a witness of those times, created with tiles, announcing the entrance of the place, and with the year clearly stated: 1909.
The mural shows what was, let's say, the logo of the neighborhood. Note: in this neighborhood was built the first theater with sound in Portugal.
