The railway station of Tenero opened in 1874, operated by Gotthardbahn. This line from Biasca to Locarno was isolated until 1882, when it was connected to other lines and the north of Switzerland. In 1909 the operating company was merged into SBB Swiss Federal Rail, the lines were electrified in 1936.
Today Tenero is a stop of line 20 of the Ticino commuting system operated by the binational Swiss-Italian company TILO. It is also the station where you can change to the buses into Verzasca valley. The station is also the base for the maintenance equipment for this area.
