The novel Pickwick Papers was originally published as a series of short stories called 'The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club'.

According to Wikipedia the novel has a number of short humorous stories about members of the Pickwick club who travel the English Countryside around London in a stagecoach and then report back to club members on their adventures.

The sign shows members of the club riding on top of the stagecoach that is being pulled by white horses.
