Located in the block of Commerce Street closest to the Alabama River, this station was unveiled in May, 2013. The fee is $1.00 for a two-hour charge at this metered parking place.

"Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and Alabama Power officials unveiled the city’s first public charging station for electric vehicles on Thursday.
Strange and Alabama Power Southern Division Vice President Leslie L. Sanders hailed the charging station on Commerce Street near the Tallapoosa Street intersection as an example of the future of transportation in the city.
“This is just another step we have taken to be a greener city,” Strange said.
Strange and Sanders said the public charger will be a test station, allowing the utility company to observe the habits of electric car users and daily usage trends.
Sanders said Alabama Power will share the information with Montgomery and other cities.
“I think in the next five years, you will see more of this,” Sanders said.
The city estimates there are about 100 electric car owners in the Montgomery area currently, Strange said. Electric car users will be able to pay $1 for a two-hour charge at the station, which has its own public parking space on Commerce Street marked by green paint.
Strange and Sanders estimated electric drivers could travel about 50 miles on the two-hour charge.
The city pays about 40 cents per hour for the electricity for the station, Strange said.
The charging station, which costs about $2,700, was paid for with a $5,000 grant from Southern Company Services to the city, Sanders said.
Sanders and Strange said the charging station is among the first public stations in the state. "
