Well, the snow's all gone for this year, but the toboggan hill is still there. Cone Hill Park is the only park in the area that we know of that has a purpose-built and lighted toboggan hill. The hill is shaped such that it forms somewhat of a bowl, guiding tobogganers to the centre and away from the eastern edge, where the road is. At the bottom is a fairly long run-out area, mitigating encounters with trees or the playground at the far end of the park.

As this is a year round park, with a playground, a basketball court and a large play field, I expect that the kids still put the hill to good use in the summer, gliding down the hill on cardboard sleds.

In the pix, the tall power poles on the right carry lights to light the hill. When I was a kid, night tobogganing was one of our favourite winter activities. But we did it out in the country, in the dead of night, without lights, and generally with a substantial stand of trees in the gloom at the bottom. That last bit added a fair bit of excitement to the fun.
