The Howelsen Hill Ski Area is a winter sports park that includes seven ski jumps (HS 127, 100, 75, 42, 28, 20 & 10), the largest of which is a 90 meter jump. The park was established in 1914 as Elk Park. In 1917 it was renamed for Carl Howelson, a European ski jumper who helped popularize the sport in Colorado. Due to a fire in 1972 the jumps were rebuilt and wooden structures replaced with steel.

Howelsen Hill is the oldest continuously operated ski area in Colorado. It has been the training location of over 79 Olympians including several on the Colorado and National Ski Hall of Fame. The winter season begins in November and extends to March.
