This bear is in "The Gulch" in west Trail. One hundred and some odd years ago this building was Lauriente's Grocery Store. It's at 690 Rossland Avenue. "Bear" is on the west side of the building, just off the sidewalk.

As of April 30th the building became the home of "The Bear's Den", a new Capuccino and Espresso bar and gallery. Richard, the owner, intends to turn the espresso bar into an art consignment gallery, exhibiting for sale all manner of art, craft, sculpture, etc.
When someone opens a new coffee bar and names it "The Bear's Den", it would only seem natural that they should adopt a bear as their mascot.
Richard never told us where the bear came from nor who carved it - possibly he did it himself.
