In 1870 mr Windsor Chase purchased a building and adjacent parcel of land for use as the St Catharines General Hospital for the amount of $2800. At the time of purchase there was only 1small building, however over the many years that have followed many new additions and renovations have been done to create the massive building that takes up a large portion of Queenston street.

On March 24th 2013 this building was decommissioned as a hospital site and the staff and patients were moved to a brand new facility located at 1200 Fourth Avenue here in St Catharines. The new owners of the building hope to begin the process of retrofitting the building into condominiums as early as June 1st 2013.
