I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey AZ Mark from 1948 in good condition. It is monumented on top of the south end of a concrete headwall that makes up a culvert west of the railroad tracks, between the railroad tracks and Hwy 97. This mark is also listed on a topography map as 'Meiss Azimuth 4736' and part of the MEISS series (MW0638). The NGS datasheet info and posted coordinates are adequate for recovery.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 5.5 MI SW FROM DORRIS. 5.5 MILES SOUTHWEST ALONG THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD FROM THE STATION AT DORRIS, 4.9 MILES NORTHEAST OF MACDOEL, AT CULVERT 401.53, IN THE TOP OF THE SOUTH END OF THE WEST CONCRETE HEAD WALL, 61.9 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF U.S. HIGHWAY 97, 8.8 FEET WEST OF THE WEST RAIL, AND ABOUT 2 FEET LOWER THAN THE TOP OF THE RAIL.
