Paladin is the fifth longhorn sculpture done by Bettye Hamblen Turner using the steel and chrome of car and motorcycle parts and the only one on public display. Paladin was born in 2008 at the Benini Studio & Sculpture Ranch (formerly the LBJ Ranch) in Johnson City, Texas and moved to the front lawn of the Flint Hill Public House Restaurant & Inn in Flint Hill, Virginia when he was acquired by William Waybourn and Craig Spaulding, owners of the Public House, for their art collection.

The stainless steel and chrome were welded using stainless steel wire to prevent rust and corrosion. The carbon steel parts are meant to acquire a rusty brown patina. The swirl often seen in Turner's work symbolizes strength and motion.
