"Born and raised in Newberry. Michigan, Louis W Foster came west by train in 1931 to attend Stanford, where he received a bachelor's degree in political science in 1935. As a undergraduate, he served as senior varsity track manager. He was a commissioned naval officer in World War II. Following the war, he married his Midwestern sweetheart, Gladys Larsen. In 1958, Lou founded 20th century industries, one of the nations largest insurance companies and served as its CEO for 35 years. He was active for many years with United Way, Boy Scouts of America and Boys and Girls Club of America.
