The first stages moved over this route on 11 April 1877, carrying 68 passengers. There were 26 Concord Stages and 200 teams comprised the rolling stock. One way fare was $23.00. This route carried hundreds of passengers and tons of freight until about 1880 when a closer route for immigrants from Pierre, SD was completed by the same company. This new route reduced the traffic over this route to 3 stages per week until the railroad replaced the stagecoaches.
