A distinct bedrock mortar was found near the "lagunas" on Laguna Mountain while hiking the area to find several Geocaches.

This distinct hole in a granite rock in the Laguna Mountains is typical of many bedrock mortars.
These holes were created as the Native People used them to grind acorns into flour, although they could have had other uses.
As stated on this website, the holes are sometimes referred to as "gossip holes" because they were places where several women (the primary "gatherers") could work and have conversations during the activity.
The bedrock mortar was high on a hill in the forest not too far from a beautiful meadow like this one.
Near the bedrock mortar, we saw a beautiful King Snake.
