The Daniel F. Carter Mausoleum was built in 1868 to initially house the remains of John Carter, the son of Daniel F. Carter and Mary Buntin Carter. He was killed at the Battle of Perryville in 1862. The mausoleum is in a Moorish Revival style.

Daniel f. Carter was a successful banker. After the fall of Nashville to the Federal forces he refused to sign the oath of alliance to the United States. He was arrested and imprisoned. His house was confiscated and used by Federal officers quarters. Daniel died in 1874 and he is entombed in the mausoleum along with other family members.
