The purpose of this rain garden was to help prevent flooding in the nearby areas. Rain gardens help this cause because instead of water overflowing into the streets and collecting in the rivers the water accumulates in the garden and then is absorbed by the plants. All of the plants are native to the area and very water tolerant.
