Spoiler Alert!!!- Note, the description below although somewhat cryptic is still too revealing to readers of the novel who have not completed the book.

Nearly all of the action in Edith Wharton's 1920 Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Age of Innocence, takes place in Manhattan, NY.

However, the final chapter occurs 26 years later and the main character, Newland Archer, is visiting Paris with his adult son. Unbeknownst to Archer, his son has arranged a meeting with another main character that we haven't seen in those 26 years, Madame Olenska.
When the son informs Archer, he is conflicted on how to take the news.
He spends the afternoon before the appoinment with Olenska meandering around the galleries of the Louvre...not being able to fully concentrate on the art.
