Die Ruhrschleuse Raffelberg ist eine Schleuse am Ruhrschiffahrtskanal in Mülheim an der Ruhr. In direkter Nachbarschaft zum Wasserkraftwerk Raffelberg und gut 600 Meter vor dem Rhein-Ruhr-Hafen gelegen, ist sie die vorletzte Schleuse der Ruhr vor der Mündung bei Duisburg-Ruhrort in den Rhein.
Im Oktober 1910 beschließt die Stadt Mülheim zur Steigerung der Wirtschaft einen neuen Hafen anzulegen und eine direkte Verbindung zum Duisburger Hafen und zum Rhein zu schaffen. Dazu erhält die Ruhr zwischen den beiden Häfen ein neues Bett, da die ursprüngliche Ruhrführung für große Rheinschiffe ungeeignet ist. Das Gefälle von rund zehn Metern zwischen Mülheim und dem Rhein wird durch zwei neue Schleusen ausgeglichen: Die Ruhrschleusen Duisburg und Raffelberg. Bedingt durch den Ersten Weltkrieg und der Materialknappheit kommt es zu Planungs- und Bauverzögerungen. Schließlich nach 14-jähriger Bauzeit wird die Ruhrschleuse Raffelberg im März 1928 eröffnet. In den 1990er Jahren wurde die Schleuse umfangreich saniert, seit dem 8. November 1991 steht sie unter Denkmalschutz.
Die Schleuse hat eine Nutzlänge von 135,00 Metern und eine Nutzbreite von 12,80 Metern und ist konzipiert für die Binnenwasserstraße der CEMT Klasse Va für das "Große Rheinschiff".
The Ruhr-lock Raffelberg is a lock on the Ruhr Ship Canal in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Located directly adjacent to the hydroelectric power plant Raffelberg and 600 meters before the Rhine-Ruhr port, it is the penultimate lock before the mouth of the Ruhr into the Rhine at Duisburg-Ruhrort.
In October 1910, the city of Mülheim decides to boost the economy to create a new port and a direct connection to the Port of Duisburg and the Rhine. Therfore the Ruhr receives a new bed between the two ports, because the original Ruhr was unsuitable for large Rhine ships. The gap of about ten meters between Mülheim and the Rhine is is compensated by two new locks: The Ruhr-locks Duisburg and Raffelberg. Due to the First World War and the shortage of materials it comes to planning and construction delays. Finally, after 14 years of construction, the Ruhr sluice Raffelberg opened in March 1928. In the 1990s, the lock was extensively renovated, since November 8th, 1991 it is a listed building.
The lock has a usable length of 135.00 meters and a working width of 12.80 meters and is designed as Inland Waterway of CEMT class Va for the riverboats "Large Rhine".
