Man Walking to the Sky is a sculpture by American artist Jonathan Borofsky and was one of the highlights of the Documenta IX world exhibition of contemporary art in 1992. Locals were so delighted by it that the city council decided to purchase it from the artist, so that it could be kept in town after the exhibition had ended. The sculpture consists of a steel tube, about 25 meters tall and 50 cm in diameter, rising upward in an angle of 63°. At about 2/3 of the way up, a fibreglass life-size figure of a male human is attached, energetically and unwaveringly stepping ahead upwards. The location is the Bahnhofsplatz right in front of the old main railway station.
The Man Walking to the Sky has a sister, Woman Walking to the Sky, which is displayed in Strasbourg, France.

Man Walking to the Sky (oder der Himmelsstürmer, wie er in Kassel meist genannt wird) ist eine Skulptur des amerikanischen Künstlers Jonathan Borofsky und war eine der Attraktionen der Documenta IX in 1992. Er eroberte die Herzen der Einheimischen im Sturm, so dass sich die Stadt veranlasst sah, ihn anzukaufen, damit er auch nach Ende der Ausstellung dauerhaft in Kassel bleiben konnte. Die Skulptur besteht aus einer 25 Meter hohen Stahlröhre mit 50 cm Durchmesser, die in einem Neigungswinkel von 63° aufgestellt ist. Bei etwa 2/3 der Strecke zur Spitze ist die lebensgroße Figur eines Mannes aus Fiberglas angebracht, der energisch und unbeirrt aufwärts schreitet. Der Standort ist mitten auf dem Bahnhofsplatz vor dem alten Hauptbahnhof.
Der Man Walking to the Sky hat ein weibliches Gegenstück, Woman Walking to the Sky, das in Straßburg (Frankreich) aufgestellt ist.
