The access point is 2.5 miles south of US322. The trail goes under the Cranberry-Rockland Road. Parking available for dozen vehicles.

The blue blazes mark the North Country Trail, which follows the Sandy Creek Trail from Van to Belmar, where it heads south on the Allegheny River Trail. Refer the club map. This NCT section appears to be an alternative spur route along existing trails.

In this section, the trail is asphalt paved. To the west, it crosses Sandy Creek a couple of times before passing through a tunnel. To the east, it also crosses and follows Sandy Creek. The section is a fast and easy hike - except for dodging bicycles during warmer months. Open year around.
