Hambach festival in 1832 was a protest march against political restrictions like censorship. At this festival the German flag (black, red, golden) was used for the first time in history. Hambach festival was for sure not the only root for the 1848 revolution in Germany, but it condensated the atmosphere of the pre-revolution period. Today Hambach castle is a symbol for the German democracy movement. It has been visited by the German presidents and also in 1982 by US President Ronald Reagan.
Das Hambacher Fest von 1832 war ein Protestmarsch hinauf zum Schloß. Hier wurde erstmals die heutige deutsche Flagge in schwarz-rot-gold verwendet. Hambach war sicher nicht die einzige Wurzel der 1848er-Revolution, aber hier konzentrierte sich die allgemeine politische Stimmung der vorrevolutionären Zeit. Heutzutage steht das Hambacher Schloß für die Demokratiebewegung. Es wird regelmäßig von den Bundespräsidenten besucht und 1982 auch vom damaligen US-Präsideten.
