As often is the case with this type of sundial, it requires some interaction with the visitor in order to work: The visitor is to step into the center of the sundial with his raised arm serving as the gnomon (the second pic shows how it works). There are several marks in the center indicating where to stand according to time of year. The shadow of the arm then indicates the time of day (CET) with a deviation of only a few minutes.
