Prior to 1908, this site contained the City of Medford's water tower. In 1911, architect J.A. McIntosh designed this library as the standard Carnegie Library plan across the country: a single story atop a high basement. In 1951, a two-story annex was added, extending the life of this structure for library use for an additional 63 years. The building was vacated in 2004 when all services were moved to a new library building in downtown Medford. During renovation of the City Hall building in 2009, city staff relocated temporarily to this building, but it is once again vacant.
