One of the best places in Garland to take springtime pictures of your kids (or your pets or yourself) in a big field of beautiful Texas Bluebonnets. Mama Blaster has been photographing the Younger Blasterz here every year since they were born.

Besides, everyone in Texas knows it is illegal to pick Bluebonnets! They are the state flower, and are protected.

In Texas, it is a tradition to take pictures of your children in the bluebonnets. In springtime you will see thousands of folks pulled off on the sides of freeways taking pictures of their kids in the flowers.

Blasterz have taken their fair share of freeway pictures, but this is not Mama Blaster's preferred flower photo environment.

Mama Blaster's #1 go-to spot is in the big grassy fields outside of the parking area of Homer Johnson Stadium. The fields bloom every year with a profusion of bluebonnets, drawing hundreds of families to take pictures with them.

The bluebonnets start blooming in late February in South Texas. The bloom slowly moves northward, with the peak in North Texas occurring in late April. In Dallas the bluebonnets begin blooming in mid-March, and are usually peaking around Easter-mid April.

These hardy wildflowers re-seed themselves and require no tending to. Bluebonnets are the only flower known to "talk" to bees: The white spots on the individual flower brachts that make up the bluebonnet will turn red after a bee visits. In this way, the bee knows which of bracts have pollen, and which do not.
