This wide concrete stairway is located in the Forest Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. It connects Magellan Avenue at the bottom (N 37 44.772, W 122 27.730) to Castenada Avenue at the top (N 37º 44.800, W 122º 27.769). At the top, the stairs are bounded on one side with a wood fence and on the other side, more like a metal railed wall than a handrail. This gives way quickly to lushly planted bushes, trees and ivy. The stairway consists of stair groups of 7 or 10 steps with a landing between each group. The bottommost group has 22 steps and is the only section with a handrail in the middle.

The bottom of the stairway flares out in a wide quarter circle and then there are more steps off the sidewalk to the street. A median strip on Magellan Blvd has steps down to the traffic traveling in the opposite direction. A nicely landscaped traffic triangle with a large planter bowl divides the traffic from Pacheco street to the left or right of the stairway.

Because of the wide open undeveloped area leading to this stairway, it can be seen from many vantage points on Pacheco Street leading toward the stairway.

For those of you who enjoy fun with maps, the Google Street View cameras captured several views of the Path Street stairway:

number of stairs (minimum 60): 120.00

stair landing (check if yes): yes
