This water tank was once part of the thriving cotton mill industry in Opelika but all the mills are now closed.

The tower is located near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 16th Street, across from the Parkway Shopping Center. Of course, since it is a tower, it can be seen from a distance without any problems.
The tank is a benchmark and is listed under the PID of CM2259. It was first observed for surveying purposes in 1943.
