Harmon A. Smith Field - Agawam, MA - Illuminated School Sports Fields on Waymarking.com

Harmon A. Smith was the local legendary coach of the Agawam High School football program during its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s and a member of the Massachusetts Football Coaches Hall of Fame. The home football field, adjacent to the high school is named in his honor. The field is also used for other sports such as soccer, field hockey and lacrosse. A running track encircles the playing area.

The nickname "Brownies" has an uncertain origin. Some say it is because the schools colors are orange and brown. Others think the name came about because they once played on a muddy field and their uniform would be stained a muddy brown. The school symbol and mascot is an Indian in full headdress, which on their logo spells out "Agawam". Agawam is an Indian word meaning lowland, marsh, or meadow. The band is called the Marching Mohawks.

The field is conveniently located to the west of the high school building, separated by a huge parking lot with ample free parking. Alcohol and tobacco are strictly forbidden on the grounds of the high school. Home games are played on Friday nights beginning at 7 pm.
The home team sits on the west side of the field under the press box.
