The sign says only "Historic Lander Trail Crossing". It marks the spot where this cutoff of the main Orgeon Trail crosses a rural back road. The Lander Cutoff roughly parallels US Highway 89 in this area. It seems fitting that a local rancher has placed one of his cattle feeding pens right on top of the Trail.
