"Ampass stellt eine besondere Form der Urpfarre dar: War zuerst die Gemeinde der Mutterpfarre Ambras zugeteilt, so wurde infolge der Zerstörung der dortigen Schlosskapelle 1133 die Pfarre in die „Capella Regia“ der Befestigung Burgsteig verlegt. Zum Pfarrgebiet gehörten zu dieser Zeit: Ampass, Pradl, Rinn, Tulfes, Amras und Aldrans.
1245 wurde die Pfarre dem Stift Wilten unterstellt. Schon sehr früh konnten sich diese Teile der Pfarrei verselbständigen: 1703 traten Pradl, 1721 Rinn und Tulfes und 1765 Amras aus dem Verband aus.
1429 wird eine Kirche zum Hl. Veit in Oberndorf erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Errichtet wurde dieses Gebäude durch die Salzfuhrleute, welche das weiße Gold von Hall nach Italien lieferten. 1521 wurde die Kirche, welche auf den alten Grundmauern neu errichtet wurde, eingeweiht. Noch heute findet man Spuren der Fürbitten der Fuhrleute hinter dem Altar, wo diese sich einst verewigten. Infolge von Renovierungsarbeiten wurden interessante Fresken freigelegt, so das Wappen von Karl V. und die Wappen von Kastilien, Aragon, Sizilien, Böhmen und Ungarn." - Quelle: (
