City of Montgomery Benchmark - Montgomery, AL - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

After finding the historical marker out front, I decided to take a look at the entrance to Sidney Lanier High School. On the wall of the steps by the front entrance was this benchmark. The benchmark has "City of Montgomery Ala Bench Mark" on the outer edge and 1933 stamped on the face. That date makes sense as the school was opened in 1929.

I was not able to find any information on the Internet, so I called the City of Montgomery engineering department. One of the city engineers told me that they have no electronic database of the old city benchmarks as they are not really used any longer. Since this is an active public high school, one should consider only visiting during non-school hours or on weekends during the day.
