This suspension bridge is symbolic of the efforts to unite factions and communities within the Derry/Londonderry communities. The news article states:

Ilex, the urban regeneration company for Londonderry today announced that the total pedestrian and cycle movement on the Peace Bridge has now reached one million since its launch on June 25, 2011.

Aideen McGinley, Chief Executive of Ilex said: “This is a significant milestone. The Peace Bridge has become a much-loved, much-used route for the people of Derry-Londonderry , reaching out symbolically and physically to connect communities across the city.

“The bridge is a focal point for charity fundraising and is changing lifestyles. Its impact is immense, not least economically. The growing number of visitors to the city have made the bridge a must-see destination and it was in the top four tourist attractions in Northern Ireland last year, putting the city on the global map as we approach 2013”.
