Waterford is one of the oldest cities in Ireland and its crystal is known throughout the world. Although several reorganizations and sales of the company mean that not all the crystal is manufactured in Ireland, prestige (commissioned) pieces continue to be made in the Waterford plant. Tourists are treated to a walk through of the building, and the show room next door offers a 10% discount on purchases for completing the tour. Shipping is available as well for the cost of insuring the pieces that are mailed.
The factory workers are not merely workers, they are true craftsmen. Quality control measures are high and each piece is inspected six times before the piece is ready for sale.
