Stift Melk is an Benedictine abbey above the town of Melk on the Danube River. The abbey is a trasure of Baroque arcitecture. One feature is the large decorated dome over the abbey church.

Melk Abbey is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site popular with tourist. It shows well the wealth generated by the monks working and praying over centuries. The church in particular is an great example of Baroque arcitecture. The Altar is guided, frescos decorate the vaulted ceiling. The dome in the center and inspires thoughts on the glory of heaven. More practially the dome provides light to highlight all the gold.
Hours Open: Generally open for tours during tourist hours. The mineral collection is only open 12:30 to 13:30 daily
