Mit dem Anspruch, das hohe bildkünstlerische Potential der Leipziger Region zu fördern und zu dokumentieren, baut die Sparkasse Leipzig seit 1993 eine Kunstsammlung auf, die sich speziell an der bildenden Kunst der Region orientiert. Die Werke der inzwischen fast 2500 Exponate umfassenden Sammlung (Malerei, Grafik, Fotografie und bildhauerische Objekte), entstanden seit etwa 1946 bis in die Gegenwart und geben damit einen interessanten Ein- und Überblick über die Künstlergenerationen vor allem der "Leipziger Schule"[1].

To promote and to document the claim of the high visual artistic potential of the Leipzig region the Sparkasse Leipzig (Leipzig savings bank) is building up since 1993 an art collection oriented especially on the visual arts of the region. The works of the extensive collection, now nearly 2,500 exhibits (painting, graphics, photography and sculptural objects) created since about 1946 until the present, are providing an interesting insight and overview of generations of artists, especially from the "Leipzig School"[1].
