This memorial depicts a lifesized firefighter holding a young child in his left arm while carrying a lantern in his right hand. His belt buckle has the initials "H.F.D." for Hoboken Fire Department.
The artist is Caspar Buberl.
The statue is set on a marble plinthe about 12 foot high with a depiction of overlapping hoses, a ladder and picks. In the center is an inscription which reads:

"ERECTED
BY THE CITIZENS OF
HOBOKEN, N.J.
IN HONOR OF THE
VOLUNTEER FIRE DEP'T.
MAY 30TH, 1891.
