The Chesapeake Energy Arena is the venue for the NBA Finals (2011-2012 season) for Games 1, 2, and if needed Games 6 and 7 as well. The OKC Thunder face the Miami Heat in what is touted at the Oklahoma's biggest sporting event of the year. The 2011-2012 season was shortened due to a 2 month lockout during the collective bargaining agreement between the owners and players.
Fans of the Thunder started lining up Monday night to try and get tickets for the game (which according to the news can range from a few hundred dollars to $5,000). Seating for basketball games is approximately 18,000. According to the facility management, because of the huge crowds and safety concerns, the Jumbotron will NOT be showing the games in Thunder Alley across the street.
This week's media gathering during the NBA Finals at the Chesapeake Arena is the largest the state has seen since the 1995 Murrah Federal Building bombing in OKC. The city has blocked off streets around the arena and reserved them for the 500 media personnel from all over the United States.
Media coverage of this event will be in newspapers, radio, television, Internet, and magazines.
